I had a go at taking some more milk drop photos, I used food colouring this time to make it a bit more interresting. I'm pretty happy with the results but I do think they could have been a lot better, so I will probably do a reshoot soon.
Cool shot, I'm judging by the EXIF that you either reveresed a prime lens or you used an old 55mm f/2.8 Micro lens or similar?
Great idea with the food colouring, I'm liking the results and it'd be interesting to see what other results it could produce! I can imagine the possibilities/variations could be endless.
I'm surprised you used 1/250th for this actually, I've seen that for this kind of thing most people use a slow shutter and a strobe to catch the droplet... You must have blooy fast reactions! good job!
Thanks man, I used extension tubes for this, they work pretty good and they're really cheap.
Timing isn't really that hard with a bit of practice, once everything is set up you can just shoot away until you get something that looks good, and I'm not really aiming particular effect so a lot of it is just luck.
If you liked this one I've uploaded a couple more from this shoot on my flickr: [link]
Shit me, you got some shit-hot shots in that flickr gallery that's for sure!
Extension tubes are something I've been toying with buying for a while now, certainly cheaper than a macro lens that's for sure! Any idea on how much they affect light transmission / "relative" aperture?
your whole gallery is really good, but for some reason this one just caught my eye the most the food coloring definitely addes to it. might be interesting to see some different mixtures of colors within the same milk, we might be able to see some of the mixng in the photograph and i think that would be rad!
